Starr Jones Bio
Starr Jones', fascination with the film industry began at an early age with a visit to a film set in his native state of North Carolina. Famed American Bandstand host and television producer Dick Clark was directing a cops and robbers film entitled Killers Three near his hometown. Witnessing a makeup artist sculpting a bullet hole right on an actors face with wax on that film set sparked the interest in creating believable makeup. Along with his brother Dean he began experimenting with common household materials to create gruesome wounds and monsters.
A book given to him for Christmas written by legendary makeup artist Dick Smith was all it took. Soon he was creating all manner of characters for friends and family for Halloween parties. Participation in the scouting program lead to creating realistic first aid injuries for his fellow scouts to practice their emergency preparedness on. With fierce dedication Starr achieved the highest rank of scouting the eagle award. While in high school he coordinated the makeup for several large plays produced by his school. Upon graduation he attended The University of North Carolina at Greensboro and received a BFA in Acting and Directing.
While at UNCG he exhibited an uncanny ability to develop and portray strong believable characters roles. Notated Broadway costume designer Patricia Zipprot remarked that Starr had an innate quality of making himself disappear into his character. Perhaps it was his skill with makeup not unlike the most famous actor/ makeup artist Lon Chaney. While in college he was afforded the opportunity to work on his first feature film. Upon graduation he and his brother Dean began to develop a career in film. Working with legendary filmmaker Roger Corman lead to contacts within the film community, which opened all kinds of opportunities. Today Starr Jones is a talented and widely experienced makeup artist who has worked on over 80 movies and over 200 hundred television episodes including Day of the Dead, Mortuary, Toolbox Murders, Star Trek, The Abyss, to name but a few.
While living in Los Angeles he began studying and performing at the famed Second City. He began his own comedy troupe known as The Kidneystone Cops, which continues to perform at various venues. He has also been featured in commercials as a performer in his native state of North Carolina. He has worked with numerous highly acclaimed actors during his career such as James Earl Jones, Ellen Brysten, David Carridine, Lea Thompson, and Ed Harris.
Starr has worked as an independent film producer and as second unit director. Along with his brother Dean he produces on of the country's largest and most elaborate Halloween attraction know as the Original Hollywood Horror Show. He has produced two features filmed at the site. Currently he has several projects in the works as makeup artist and producer. Starr splits his time between Los Angeles and North Carolina with his lovely wife Carla, his awesome son Aaron, and his beautiful daughter Chloe.
